April Topic – How to Bind a 3rd Party Library for Xamarin

So you’re working on a Xamarin project and found the perfect library to use. The only problem? It’s not in Xamarin! It’s not in C# but it’s in Java for Android, or perhaps it is in Swift . Dang!

Don’t feel left out and certainly don’t despair, you can still use those libraries, You just need to wrap them with Xamarin bindings.

Bindings are Xamarin’s corollary for the .NET COM interop functionality, that enables us to wrap the platform-specific libraries (Android AAR files and iOS Native frameworks) with C# code that we can use in our Xamarin applications!

We’ll introduce Bindings with some simple examples and also share some experiences wrapping more complex libraries.
